Health

José A. Valverde

Project Officer at Unit H.3 - eHealth, Wellbeing and Ageing. DG-CNECT. European Commission. Medical Doctor specialised in Emergency and Mass Casualty Medicine, and Family and Community Medicine, with more than 16 years of experience in the clinical area, especially on the Andalusian 061 Service. He has occupied responsibility positions on the health sector administration (Director AETSA; Cabinet Advisor of Andalusian Health Minister; Director-General CENTAC).

Currently his work, at the Luxembourg site of the EC, involves 12 EU projects management, coordination of Topic evaluations and programme collaborations as the Initiative on 1 Million Genomes for 2022. His research has focused on eHealth including Personal Health Systems, Health 2.0, m-Health, and European healthcare systems enabled through Information Society Technologies. Another related research line is on accessibility technologies for active and healthy ageing. Dr Valverde is also an active member of the European Advisory Committee on Health Research (EACHR) of WHO-Europe.

Jimmy Bagley

Jimmy Bagley, PhD is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology at San Francisco State University (SFSU) in California. He is Director of the Muscle Physiology Lab, Co-Director of the Exercise Physiology Lab, and Research Director of the Strength & Conditioning Lab at SFSU. Dr. Bagley teaches exercise physiology courses and his research interests include: muscle physiology, sport performance enhancement, and validity/reliability of fitness technology.


Begoña García-Zapirain

Begoña García-Zapirain is graduated in Communications Engineering, specializing in Telematics at the Basque Country University, Bilbao (Spain) in 1994. In 2004, she defended her doctoral thesis in biomedical signal processing research area. After four years of working for ZIV Company, in 1997, Prof. García- Zapirain joined the University of Deusto as a lecturer in signal theory and electronics at the Engineering School. She was the head of the Telecommunication Department at the University of Deusto from 2002-2008 and head of DeustoTech- LIFE Department from 2008-2018. In 2001 she created eVIDA research group (evida.deusto.es). She has participated in more than 100 research projects on international, national and regional levels, published more than 70 papers in international scientific ISI indexed journals, and presented more than 160 papers in international and national scientific conferences. She has been supervising more than 10 thesis and has ongoing 5 PhD students. She has strong collaborations with research labs in USA, France, Ireland, and Netherlands among others. She has 5 research awards at national level.

Carron Manning

Carron is a co-founder of EXi and also a Chartered Physiotherapist with 20 years of clinical experience in the NHS, private health and elite sport. She worked with senior Team GB athletes at the English Institute of Sport, travelling with the team to international competitions. Carron holds a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise medicine, alongside her BSc in Physiotherapy.

Víctor López Pastor

Doctor of Education (1998). Lecturer at the faculty of Education, Segovia (University of Valladolid). He is author and/or coordinator of 20 books, 35 book chapters, 160 scientific articles and 150 communications in scientific and professional congres. Coordinator of the Network of Formative Evaluation in Education. Lines of research: -Formative and shared evaluation in Physical Education; Formative and shared evaluation in education; the formative and shared evaluation of Higher Education; Physical Education Teaching; Research-Action and Ongoing Teacher Training; Physical Education in the Rural School.

José Carlos Fernández

Dr. José Carlos Fernández is a tenured professor of Physical Activity and Health at the University of Málaga. Bachelor's in Physical Education, master's in Education and master in Methods and resources in educational research and innovation. His doctoral thesis received in the year 2000 the prize in Biomedical Sciences and Sports Performance from the Andalusian Institute of Sport and he also adds five other awards for his research. He has been Head of the Researching in Sport Sciences group since 2001 and has been involved in more than 20 national and international research studies and has belonged to several large research consortia.

He has also given classes in Masters and PhDs having directed 12 doctoral theses. He has directed the Laboratory of Body Composition and Human Motricity at the University of Malaga and he is the Principal Editor of the Revista Iberoamericana de Ciencias de la Actividad Física y el Deporte, listed on the Web of Science. Evaluator, since 2015, in the CNEAI (national commission for the assessment of research activity) and since 2016 as expert in the Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture (European Commission) in the framework of the Erasmus + Sport programme.

Currently he has published more than 70 papers and has been a reviewer for high impact publications such as Nutrients, Journal of Testing and Evaluation, Applied Sciences, Journal of Clinical Medicine or International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. Actually, he has index h = 12; 15 papers in Q1 and more than 500 citations in the last five years.

Jorge Rodriguez

Jorge Rodriguez is an international IB PE teacher currently living and working in Saudi Arabia. He has been teaching physical education for 15 years, 13 years in the United States, and 2 years in Saudi Arabia. Jorge graduated from the University of Houston, where he ran track for 4 years, and earned his M.Ed. from the American College of Education. He has presented all around the US and internationally and virtually and enjoyed sharing new ideas and learning from others.

Jorge has also hosted a physical education podcast for the past 5 years, The Global PhysEd Podcast, where he has talked to educators around the world about their perspectives and practices. Jorge is passionate about physical education and how we can improve the profession together.


Francisco Javier Vázquez Ramos

Phd at the University of Seville, graduated from the University of Granada and graduated in Educational Sciences from the University of Seville, CEU San Pablo. He combine his teaching work, both in the public school and at the Pablo de Olavide University (Seville), with research duties.

Fco Javier is specialist in active methodologies and evaluation. He is passionate about the dissemination of everything related to physical education and the value it has for the integral formation of people. Arturo Guerrero

Arturo has been working at IBM for over 7 years, helping companies from Europe and Latin America in their Digital Transformation journeys, focusing more specifically on CX and Artificial Intelligence as well as other fascinating technologies. He's also a lecturer at several business schools in Madrid, such as ESIC or EUDE Business School, where he also runs the Customer Experience specialisation. He holds a Masters degree in Telecommunication Engineering (University of Alcalá & Danish Technical University).

Ismael Fernández Cuevas

Ismael Fernández Cuevas is co-founder of ThermoHuman, a pioneering company focused on the application of infrared thermography to prevent and monitor injuries in sport and health sector. MBA and PhD in Sport Sciences, he gathers academic (26 scientific articles published), professional (injury prevention expert in different disciplines and high-performance teams such as PSG, Newcastle United, Getafe CF, Atlético de Madrid, Villareal CF, Everton FC or Houston Rockets) and international experience (62 countries visited, working experience in 7 of them and fluent in 7 languages) to develop ThermoHuman project.

Susana Ferreras de la Fuente

Data scientist at Arsenal F.C, analysing event and tracking data to create models, metrics and tools to evaluate team performance and support the club in the decision making process. She is also involved in basketball working with the Spanish national team. Previously worked as data scientist in telecom sector for 10 years.

Javier Núñez Sánchez

Javier Nuñez is a Professor of Football in the Sports Faculty at Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville (Spain). He is editor at PlosOne and, at the research level, focuses on the demands of competition in football and other team sports. He has been CEO of training companies such as VF Sport and Nuon Sport. As practitioner, Javier is an specialist in strength training that has worked in Strength & Conditioning departments of professional football teams such: Valencia CF, Villarreal CF, Real Betis, Real Zaragoza and Racing de Santander.

Peter Demopoulos

He is a sport scientist working with RealTrack Systems and Project Manager for the Cirque Du Soleil MESSI10 show. His role spans from company and product presentations, research projects in addition to providing scientific support to clients. Prior to joining RealTrack Systems, he was a Lecturer in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, UK. In addition, he has experience working as a Performance Analyst in elite level football in the UK. His doctoral thesis examined optimizing the use of GPS technology to quantify biomechanical load in elite level football.
